About Style For Hire
Why should celebrities have all the fun? Style for Hire, a network of the best personal stylists hand-picked by Stacy London, will show you which duds to toss, what to keep, and what to buy within your budget to sharpen your look and flatter your figure. No more staring in despair at your closet!
Our Mission
Cindy and I started Style for Hire based on a belief that everyone not just the rich or famous should be able to get personal help with style.
Style for Hire is the natural outgrowth of the work I do on TLC's hit show What Not to Wear: helping people with unique bodies, tastes, and budgets develop their own sense of style; learn how to dress their body-type; and optimize the investment they make in their wardrobe.
I have seen the massive and unexpected impact of this process on people's lives. Promotions have been won, first dates turned into second and third dates, marriages revitalized, confidence gained. The transformations that can arise from a few simple wardrobe changes are lasting and significant. Ultimately, the change we promote is not hemlines or colors, but our clients' improved sense of Self.
To make stylists accessible to everyone, I select, train and certify stylists around the country that meet my high standards of quality, honesty, and compassion. For match.com customers, they replicate the kind of experience I would provide in people's homes - in a kinder, gentler, not-made-for-TV way - while bringing their own sense of style.
I am a true believer in the idea that personal style is just that personal and unique. Our stylists will help their clients find their OWN style, and perhaps a bit of extra confidence in the process.
Our Founders
Stacy London
Co-founder and Stylist-In-Chief
No introduction needed for What Not to Wear's honest-because-she-loves-ya TV stylist, who's got a closet to make you weep, a taste for stilettos, a snarky wit and a wild wave of natural gray in otherwise jet-black hair. Stacy is our Go-To Girl for all things stylist related: assessment, training, certification, continuing education. Born and bred in NYC, she's also a smarty-pants: graduating Phi Beta Kappa from Vassar in Philosophy. She went on to become a fashion assistant at Vogue, then Senior Fashion Editor at Mademoiselle before starting her own personal styling business, from which she was discovered by TLC, for a nearly-decade-long run on What not to Wear.
Cindy McLaughlin
Co-founder, Chairman and CEO
Cindy started Style for Hire when - as a California mother of two who was once a reasonably stylish New Yorker - she walked into her closet full of wash-and-wear, stretchy mom clothes; recognized she was having a full-blown identity crisis; and decided she needed professional help. She called her dear friend Stacy London (feeling very, VERY lucky to have one of the most stylish women in the country on the Red Phone), and Stacy came to her wardrobe's rescue. Over dinner afterward they had a meeting of minds, and Style for Hire was born. Cindy brings deep fashion industry knowledge and experience, most recently as co-founder and CEO of Abaeté, a NYC-based women's apparel brand. She holds an MBA from MIT/Sloan and a BA from Mount Holyoke College. In a far less glamorous phase of her life, Cindy was a water/sanitation volunteer for Peace Corps Congo.
Our Stylists
Style for Hire stylists participate in a rigorous assessment and training program before being certified and invited to join our company. They come to us with their own unique fashion flair, styling experience, area knowledge, and manner; we train them in Style for Hire best-practices. Our stylists are educated regularly about recent trends, new areas of expertise and fashion-innovations; and may participate in seminars and trainings throughout the year.
Some stylists will train with us, and will have a Certificate of Completion in their portfolio or a "Trained by Style for Hire" logo on their website. These stylists are not certified by Style for Hire. Please book a Style for Hire certified Stylist through this site.
Whether you book a stylist for Closet Audit, Closet Shopping, Personal Shopping, or other, we make it easy and fun! A Style for Hire stylist will give you an honest assessment about what suits your body, and advice on how to make the most of what already hangs in your closet. S/he'll send clothes that have low utility to charity or consignment, and suggest options for tailoring or cleaning. Since Style for Hire has close relationships with many retailers and best-in-class service providers, you may receive discounts when you shop with us, and special attention from our partners.
Our Pricing
Pricing for Style for Hire is crystal-clear. We don't charge extra for the pre- or post-appointment work your Stylist does, and you'll never, ever be charged extra for purchases. We believe in transparency about pricing and about our service, and expect you'll come back because you're hooked on the service itself. In fact, if your appointment is completed early, you will only be charged for that time to the next 15-minute increment.
